From the bottom of my heart I congratulate you on a wonderful holiday - the Day of the Glass Industry Worker!

The professional holiday of workers of the glass industry in Russia has been celebrated since 2000, on November 19 - on the birthday of Mikhail Vasilyevich Lomonosov, an outstanding Russian scientist, poet, educator, one of the most prominent luminaries of world science, statesman and public figure (19.11.1711-15.04.1765 ).

Mikhail Vasilievich Lomonosov wrote:

“... I sing praise to you in rapture

Not precious stones, nor gold, but Glass ... "

("Letter on the Use of Glass")

Lomonosov was the creator of the chemical production of glaze, glass, porcelain. He developed the technology and formulation of colored glasses - smalt (pieces of a homogeneous opaque mixture of glass and metal oxides), which he used to create mosaic paintings. Developed the composition of the porcelain mass.

Glass, which at the present time cannot be dispensed with in almost any area of human life and activity, including products for the security of the state, was obtained over five thousand years ago. The oldest examples of glass products that have come down to us were discovered during excavations of Egyptian cities.

In Russia, the production of artistic glass products (mosaics, dishes, bracelets) existed since the beginning of the 11th century. The glass making technology was adopted from the Byzantines, and already in the time of Yaroslav the Wise, Kiev craftsmen began to make lead-silica glass. And the foundations of the classical scientific approach to glass production in Russia were laid in the middle of the 18th century by Lomonosov.

Despite such an ancient history, the production of glass acquired a mass character only at the end of the 19th century thanks to the invention of the Siemens-Martin oven and factory production of soda. And float glass is a completely modern product: the technology of its manufacture was developed in the second half of the 20th century.

The Russian glass industry is one of the most successful and constantly developing in the world. Our goal is to develop the domestic Russian glass market and search for new consumers of glass products.
