Rostec for the first time showed footage of the production of glass for microscopes and binoculars

Rostec presented the glass melting process for the first time in one of the workshops of the Lytkarino Optical Glass Plant (LZOS), the press service of the state corporation reports.

The material is made from a special powder mixture - charge. In addition to this, glass cullet of suitable quality can be added to technological containers (fireclay pots with a volume of 500-700 liters). The cooking temperature reaches 1400-1550°C. This usually lasts for several days. The resulting melt is clarified and homogenized, that is, made homogeneous, using special technological processes. After this, the glass melt is cast into a mold. Each brand of glass – and there can be dozens of them – has its own melting and annealing regimes. Cooling, or annealing, takes place in a special furnace and is divided into coarse and optical (fine). The first can last two to three weeks, and the second can last a month or even longer.

The fired block is removed from the furnace and is inspected by the technical control department. If the workpiece meets all the requirements, it is sent to the cutting areas, where the glass is cut, ground, and polished.

LZOS reportedly produces optical glass for aerospace monitoring, medical technology, scientific instruments and many other devices. In 2023, the plant produced more than 1,000 tons of glass. This required about 950 technological cycles, including cooking in gas pot ovens, molding, annealing and other processes.
