Rare works of glass were first shown by the Museum of Fine Arts in Izhevsk

“Formula of glass” is the name of the exhibition that opened in the Udmurt Republican Museum of Fine Arts on February 13. Its main idea is to show the changing states of glass: from the initial formula to the finished product. There are more than 50 exhibits at the exhibition, the main part of them are exhibits not previously shown from the collection of the Museum of Fine Arts. Among them are the unique stained-glass windows of Izhevsk artists Stanislav Medvedev and Gennady Slyusarev. Also presented here are highly artistic objects created in the USSR during the heyday of glassworks in the 1960s and 1980s. These are unique samples of art products of the Moscow factory "Red May" and the Leningrad plant of art glass.

Among the exhibits - an icon of functional design of the twentieth century - the legendary vase of the Finnish architect Alvar Aalto.

The uniqueness of the exhibition lies in the fact that next to the works of the Soviet period, products from Murano glass are displayed. It is already a legend in itself. The secrets of glassblowers from the island of Murano are transmitted from generation to generation only through the male line, technology is prohibited from being exported from the island. At the exhibition “Glass Formula” these unique works are presented.

Here you can see antique objects and artifacts from private collections.

“Formula of glass” is not only an amazingly beautiful exhibition, which immerses the world of glass, which has been little studied by Izhevsk citizens, but also is informative. Here on the screen the process of working with glass is demonstrated, and on the wall there is a Glazier's Dictionary, from which you will learn what a Venetian thread, blown glass, bending and other special terms are.

This exhibition also shows that the creation of any glass object, even the most functional, everyday, requires a creative approach. For example, a faceted glass was designed by such a famous sculptor as Vera Mukhina, who created the famous monument “Worker and Collective Farm Girl”.

The exhibition runs from February 13 to March 29, 2020
