About the EU Borderline Carbon Correction Mechanism

Dear colleagues!

According to the statistics of the European Union, the glass industry in Russia is in the top five suppliers to the European market of glass products for various consumer sectors.

This result was obtained primarily due to the very large and efficient work of enterprises producing glass products.

Over the past two decades, the Association "StekloSouz" of Russia has carried out significant work to promote the Russian glass industry to the world glass markets through participation in collective stands at all world glass exhibitions in Germany, Italy, China and other countries, work at many international forums.

For more than ten years the Association "StekloSouz" of Russia has been a member of the International Commission on Glass (ICG), which has contributed to a better understanding of the capabilities of our factories for successful export of products to various continents: Asia, the Middle East, and European countries.

In 2020, the European Union (EU) developed an Implementation Plan for the "Border Correction Carbon Mechanism" .

On February 5, 2021, the Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety of the European Parliament adopted a resolution, in accordance with which the position on the need to introduce a PCUM that meets the WTO rules was approved in order to establish a payment for carbon dioxide emissions used in the production of certain goods for outside the EU in the event that the producing countries of these goods "are not ambitious enough in their plans to combat climate change."

Currently, the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation is monitoring the plans for the implementation of the European Union - "Border Correction Carbon Mechanism".

Federal industry associations (according to the list) are involved in this work.
