At VDNH they will tell about the history of world design and glass art

In the "House of Crafts" VDNH start lecture cycles for creative people. As part of the Winter Educational Program, guests will be able to attend meetings for free on the history of world design and the traditions of glass craftsmanship from renowned art historians and designers.

On December 11, 2019, the cycle of lectures on art glass, prepared by the designer of the architectural environment Olga Shakhova, returns to the “House of Crafts”, located in Pavilion No. 47. This season of the project “Knowledge. ENEA »guests will get acquainted with the traditions of this craft in different countries.

The first meeting will be dedicated to the Soviet school of glass making. Here, the participants will find out which artists played a key role in the development of author's art glass in the country and what discoveries of world significance were made by Soviet scientists in this field. The December 25 cycle will continue with an introduction to the history of the glass industry in the United States and the legacy of one of the most recognizable artists, Louis Comfort Tiffany.

Three more lectures will be held after the New Year.

On January 22, guests will be told what treasures of Spanish masters are in the Hermitage collection and what the Venetian and Spanish school of art glass making have in common.

On February 5, the lecture will present the traditions of the Czech glassworks famous throughout the world, as well as the discoveries of Czech craftsmen that influenced the development of the entire glass industry. The program will end on March 4 with the history of French glass, where visitors will learn about what treasures are stored in the Louvre, and see the iconic works of cult artists of this country. The beginning of all lectures at 19:30.

The House of Crafts at VDNH will also become the venue for the History of World Design cycle, which will be of interest to both professionals and amateurs of this type of creativity. The series will open with a lecture on Italian design, which will be held on December 14. Art critic Marita Matz will talk about the emergence and evolution of this concept in Italy and why Italian brand products are a worldwide standard of impeccable taste and quality. On January 11, participants will discuss how the American understanding of design has spread to the whole world, how the concept of “American lifestyle” was formed and how design has become a tool of trade. On February 8, fans of the Scandinavian view of design are waiting for them at the “House of Crafts”. Marita Matz will talk about the reflection of the northern mentality and the harsh climate in the style features of the Scandinavian masters.

The final lecture of the cycle will be held on March 7 and will be devoted to the phenomenon of Japanese design - as versatile and technological as the Land of the Rising Sun itself.
