LDPR propose to ban plastic bags

The LDPR is proposing a ban on plastic bags in Russia in 2025, said the first deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on Natural Resources Vasily Vlasov at a plenary meeting.

According to Vlasov, the next protests in the country will be devoted to ecology, since the environmental situation in cities is not improving. He noted that Moscow produces 1/5 of solid municipal waste in Russia.

“Everyone is talking about separate collection of garbage, but they sell vegetables and fruits in two plastic bags and plastic boxes,” said Vasily Vlasov.

He stressed that 50-60% of garbage is recycled in the European Union, and 7% in Russia. In the center of Moscow there is not a single collection point for glass containers or plastic, the deputy noted, and in Europe there are such collection points at every step.

Vlasov proposed to ban the use of plastic bags from 2025 to give the business a rebuild. In many countries, this has already been done, he said. The deputy sent a corresponding letter to Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Gordeev, but he received an answer that he should subsidize the production of paper bags before abandoning plastic.

The deputy said that environmental issues and separate collection of garbage will be discussed at the hearings, which the LDPR faction is going to hold.
