Fragile as crystal. A new film about Gus-Khrustalny factories has been released

Journalists Andrey Dubrovsky and Alexander Kholodov have released a new documentary about the collapse of the glass industry in Gus-Khrustalny. The authors focused attention not only on what has already been lost, but also on what has been preserved.

The film was shot back in 2021, but its presentation was delayed for several years. Last Friday, March 22, the first public screening of the documentary took place at the Fligel Center for Contemporary Culture. Dozens of guests came there, including glass industry experts. Despite the heated discussion, the event ended on a positive note with applause as a sign of gratitude for the work done.

In the film, the authors tried to show different sides of the Gusev crystal industry. Among the interlocutors of Andrei Dubrovsky and Alexander Kholodov are experts, industrialists, social activists, former and current production workers. The documentarians managed to find answers to the questions about the state of the famous crystal factory and why only one furnace is working there, what happened to the former glass giant - the Dzerzhinsky plant, which produced glass for all Soviet entrances, a porthole for Yuri Gagarin's spaceship and the lining of the Soviet spaceship "Buran". In addition, the film tried to explain what exactly happened to the quartz plant and who was responsible for its closure - the Americans or the local company.

The film features the director of the Magistral plant, where they produce glass for agricultural machinery and cash-in-transit vehicles, Mikhail Maksukov, city council deputy and local historian Viktor Shokhrin, former regional council deputy Mikhail Shcherbakov and others.
