Environmental flash mob on a planetary scale: World Day of Cleanliness

On September 19, planet Earth plunged into global clean-up - World Day of Cleanliness - a civilian project to clean up cities from garbage, plant trees and improve territories, which simultaneously took place in 180 countries with the participation of several million volunteers.

The flash mob originated in 2018 in Estonia, when 50 thousand volunteers cleared the country of 10 thousand tons of waste in just five hours. The action was taken over first in 116 countries, then their number increased and Russia became one of the most active participants.

In 2020, the "StekloSouz" Association took part in this action. So only from the territory of the Rostov region, thanks to the efforts of the Association, 90 bags of glass, 120 liters each, were removed. This glass was sent to the company "ECO SPHERE" LLC (http://glass-rostov.tilda.ws/), which collects, processes and supplies cullet from the glass industry. After the stage of sorting and processing the cullet, the cullet prepared for utilization will be sent by EKO SPHERE to the Russian glass factories, where it will acquire a new life in the form of a glass jar or bottle.

The problem of waste collection, including glass, must be addressed systematically: with the help of environmental education, consumption reduction, the introduction of saving technologies and separate collection. So, within the framework of the World Day of Cleanliness of the "StekloSouz" Associations, a master class on secondary material resources was held so that the population could easily determine what is waste and cannot be recycled, and what waste from the use of goods can be reused by various enterprises in their production.

As for glass, in addition to the traditional direction of using glass waste in the charge of glass-making furnaces, cullet can also be used in the production of glass staple fiber, used to reinforce bituminous waterproofing coatings of steel underground gas and oil pipelines, in the manufacture of glass beads used for road signs, markings and advertising , the manufacture of jewelry (beads, beads), television screens, in the construction of roads, the manufacture of building insulation materials and foam glass.

In each region of the Russian Federation, various actions are carried out dedicated to environmental issues and separate waste collection.

On September 26, 2020, another major environmental event, the Eco-festival, will take place on the territory of the Rostov region.

The participation of each of us in environmental education campaigns will make a significant contribution to the preservation of our planet for future generations.
