Belmedsteklo to increase production volumes for the Belarusian vaccine against coronavirus

JSC "Belmedsteklo" (Borisov, Minsk region) needs to increase production volumes for the Belarusian vaccine against COVID-19. This was stated by Prime Minister of Belarus Roman Golovchenko during a working trip to the Borisov district, the press service of the government reports.

According to Golovchenko, now the ampoule equipment is being adjusted at JSC Belmedsteklo. Production was focused more on traditional pharmaceutical products. “But now, when the country is launching its own vaccine against coronavirus, we need to talk about increasing capacity. The current production capacity of the enterprise is 500-550 million ampoules, of which 400 million will go only for our traditional pharmaceutical products. We will need to increase the production volume for our vaccine production, ”he said.

At the same time, the Prime Minister especially noted that in this case there will be other technical requirements for glass, the Ministry of Health, together with manufacturers, was tasked to study this issue.

“We believe that the decision to keep this medical glass production was right. We have already brought it to the proper level, which will make it possible to replace the imported glass tube, which was previously purchased from Germany, ”he stated.

Golovchenko also said that he faced the situation at Belmedsteklo OJSC immediately after being appointed head of the government. “The situation was crisis. The enterprise modernization project was under threat of stoppage due to a lack of funding and mistakes made at the stage of formation. Then opinions were expressed about the closure of the enterprise together with the Borisov Crystal Factory, which at that time had already entered the liquidation procedure. But after consulting, we decided to find funding and complete the project. Today we see that the decision was correct. There is no fear that the project will not come true. The most important thing is that the heart of the enterprise - the melting furnace - has started working, ”the Prime Minister emphasized.

JSC "Belmedsteklo" was formed in 2017 after the separation of the state-owned enterprise "Borisov Crystal Factory named after FE Dzerzhinsky "into two separate enterprises (the second was JSC" Borisovsky crystal "). Since April 1, 2019, it has been allocated to a separate production and is currently continuing the production of medical products for enterprises of the pharmaceutical industry in Belarus.

As previously reported, on May 7, 2021, Alexander Lukashenko said that his own Belarusian vaccine against COVID-19 had already been received in vitro. On the same day, he told Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in a telephone conversation “about the production of its own vaccine in Belarus”. At the end of July, Belarusian state media reported on the creation of a prototype of a domestic vaccine against coronavirus. The development of the prototype was planned to be completed by the fall and put into production in 2022.
