Anna Kuznetsova: «New GOSTs for windows will increase the safety of children»

Anna Kuznetsova, Plenipotentiary under the President of the Russian Federation for Children's Rights, spoke about the innovations that will help ensure the safety of children on her Instagram page.

“Another important step has been taken to improve the safety of children! New GOSTs for window blocks and structures were approved. Requirements include not only a child lock, but also the use of special fittings and blockers that will prevent you from accidentally opening the window. GOSTs will come into force in the coming autumn, which means that from now on, windows that are safe for children should be installed not only in new buildings, ”wrote Anna Kuznetsova.

She noted that falling from windows is one of the most common causes of death of children (5th place). So, in 2020, according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, 1,339 children fell out of the windows, and 145 died.

“The innovations that are being adopted are very important. We have consistently sought to change building codes to ensure the safety of children, forms of statistical accounting. However, many children live in homes where plastic windows were installed prior to the introduction of the new rules and there are no retainers on these windows. To ensure the protection of children from falling out of windows, our "Council of Fathers" and other NGOs were involved here, but systemic solutions are needed. And the experience of pilot regions in which comprehensive programs for child safety are being implemented according to our proposal proves the effectiveness of the chosen path, ”added Anna Kuznetsova.
