Glass Museum (Murano)

Glass Museum (Murano)

Museum of Glass (Italian: Museo del Vetro) - Museum of the history of glass production, including the manufacture of Murano glass, located on the island of Murano, north of Venice.

The museum is located in the Palazzo Justiniana, which for a long time served as the residence of the bishops of Torcello [1]. The palace was originally built in the Gothic style as a patrician palace. In 1659, the building became the seat of Bishop Marco Justinian, who later bought the palace and donated it to the Diocese of Torcello.

The museum was founded in 1861 [2], but the date of its opening is 1923, when the island of Murano was officially transferred to Venice. This building also originally housed the Murano Town Hall, which was later housed in the Palazzo Da Mula.

The museum is located near the Museum vaporetto stop [3].

The museum is administered by the Foundation for Civic Museums of Venice (Italian: Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia, MUVE).
