Glass production plant in Kyzylorda: a new era for the Kazakh economy

Mazhilis deputy, member of the faction of the National Social Democratic Party Nurlan Auesbaev got acquainted with the work of the glass plant of Orda Glass Ltd LLP in Kyzylorda as part of his working trips to the regions, DKNews.kz reports.

A glass production plant in the industrial zone of Kyzylorda was launched in October last year as part of the national project “Sustainable Economic Growth Aimed at Improving the Welfare of Kazakhstanis.”

Currently the company operates on a permanent basis.

To date, the plant has produced about 167 thousand tons of glass products. Its total cost is 13.1 billion tenge. The main task is to provide the domestic market with flat glass products. That is why the country's first innovative glass products are delivered to all cities of Kazakhstan. In addition, it ships to Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.

According to Galymzhan Kuatov, deputy head of the production department of Orda Glass Ltd LLP, Chinese investors invested 42 billion tenge in the plant. It is fully equipped with modern technology. 372 people work here.

“The glass factory is one of the largest industries in this region. The main components of technological processes are mined here. For example, there are quartz and other types of sand needed for glass production. It is also good that the agreement and investment project provide training and experience in using technology for Kazakh workers. It is gratifying that the number of citizens of Kazakhstan prevails among both ordinary workers and engineers” (Nurlan Auesbaev).

The main goal of the glass production project is to reduce dependence on foreign goods and provide the country's economy with import-substituting products. Equipment was purchased from Europe and the USA. Previously, 100% of glass products were imported. The launch of a domestic glass factory contributed to reducing the cost of glass products on the market by up to 50%. For example, last year 1 cubic. m. of glass 4 mm thick cost 2200 tenge, now – 1250 tenge.

However, there are few highly qualified specialists in glass production. There is no alternative to the float technology used in the plant. Now, given the extensive experience of Chinese technical specialists in glass production, local specialists are being trained.
