Khabarovsk residents massively give glass for recycling

During the New Year holidays, residents of Khabarovsk collected a record amount of glass containers, which will soon be sent for recycling. In less than a week in January, the townspeople in total brought about 3 tons of glass waste, according to the news agency "Khabarovsk Krai Today".

- Despite the official weekend, the townspeople took the time, collected the glass containers that had accumulated during the holidays, sorted them and delivered them to our station for the reception of recycled materials "Polyana". Responsible approach and conscious attitude of the society win over. It can be stated: the level of education of the Khabarovsk residents in the ecological plan is increasing every year, - says Vladimir Sidorov, head of the Khabarovsk regional branch of the All-Russian Society for Nature Conservation. - The collected glass now has a long way to go: after being crushed at a local processing plant, it will be sent to the central part of Russia, where after the melting process it will take on a new life.

In addition to fragile material, about 20 cubic meters of plastic bottles, 7 cubic meters of low-pressure polyethylene were collected during the holiday period, mainly containers for household chemicals, 1 cubic meter of electronic scrap, about 5.5 tons of paper and 200 kg of batteries.

According to Vladimir Sidorov, the work itself was progressing in difficult conditions. Since the collection point is not heated, workers and volunteers had to collect and pack waste at low temperatures.

This year, public figures are planning to open two similar stations in different microdistricts of Khabarovsk. They also expect to receive funds within the framework of the national project "Ecology" for the installation of about 150 city containers for the collection of recyclable materials, and hope for support from the regional government.

- Of course, we continue to try to promote the idea of conscious consumption in society, for this, on the basis of the Polyana collection point, we have opened the Resource Saving Center. In a non-standard shop, you can find things that help protect nature from disposable items, explains the ecologist. - In addition to the usual eco-bags, masks or shoe covers, on the shelves you can find for many still outlandish items, for example, reusable ear sticks or diapers with a compartment for special inserts.

In addition, in order to influence the problem in a comprehensive manner, this year, together with the administration of Khabarovsk, public figures are planning to hold an action "The package is not needed!" It will start with an agreement with major department stores to reduce the use of disposable bags.
